About Me

My photo
Mysteries, polka dots, California Rolls, TJ Maxx, cozy blankets, rainy days and getting the first spoonful of peanut butter out of the jar make me smile. Spiders, rude people, cold fingers and toes, baby leashes, people that don't wrap their packages before going to the Post Office, poison ivy and Math (pretty much all of it) make me want to scream. My perfect day would be spent with my wonderful husband and sweet girls- watching movies in our jammies! Of course, having the movie theater to ourselves would be great, too. Please pass the popcorn and M&M's.:) I am saved by the grace of God. He is my constant companion and hears my every prayer. What a blessing! I'd love to hear from you! The Bachelor Girl's Guide to Murder by Rachel McMillan- Delightfully Clever!

My Thoughts:

The Bachelor Girl's Guide to Murder, by Rachel McMillan, is all sorts of fun- if clever mysteries are your cup of tea! The main characters Merinda Herringford (intelligent, unconventional and daring) and Jemima Watts (beautiful, ladylike, with a passion for adventure) are absolutely fabulous in their "Sherlock and Watson" relationship. In the 1910's their independent nature and quest for justice is not socially embraced, yet you'll cheer for them every step of the way!

The mystery unfolds in Toronto with the murders of two Irish young ladies. Merinda and Jemima go undercover as men in the hopes of discovering clues. The city is quite different at night with unsavory characters and The Morality Squad (a group of men enforcing "safety" rules for ladies) policing the streets. In the midst of sleuthing, Ray DeLuca, local reporter, meets Jemima and a friendship is formed. Ray DeLuca is my favorite character, by the way. Quite dashing with his good looks and Italian accent, he's also bighearted and courageous. Yes, I developed a bit of a crush on him!  As the cast of characters grows so do the questions and the danger. It was a true pleasure to read this book! If you enjoy a good mystery, delightful characters, a bit of humor and intrigue this book is for you!
